Golf Course Owners of Wisconsin Scholarship Parameters

Purpose
The purpose of the GCOW Scholarship is to support the education of individuals interested in working in a golf-related industry. A scholarship recipient may seek a degree or pursue studies that are not under the golf industry banner but they must justify in their scholarship application how it will assist them in their career in a golf-related industry.

Amount
Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each will be awarded. The number of the scholarships annually will be up to the GCOW board of directors. Scholarships are a result of the success of the GCOW Platinum Passport program, so annual numbers of scholarships are dependent on the success of the program.

Scholarships
The GCOW scholarship is a one time scholarship and will be awarded based on the criteria listed. Being awarded a scholarship will not be a factor in receiving a scholarship in subsequent years as each year the scholarships must be re-applied for. A person receiving a scholarship in any given year is encouraged to re-apply in subsequent years.

The GCOW scholarship will be awarded at one of the GCOW Annual Meetings; however the funds will not be dispersed until the recipient has shown proof of completed course work with a passing grade at the conclusion of the semester/year. For example, although a person will be awarded the scholarship in March of a given year for the upcoming fall semester, the actual money will not be dispersed until AFTER the fall semester class has been completed with a passing grade.

Failure to achieve a passing grade and present necessary documentation will result in the forfeiture of scholarship.

Criteria
The GCOW will award $1,000 scholarships based on the following criteria.
  1. Nominee must be an owner/operator, employee or immediate family member of a GCOW-member course owner.
  2. Nominee must be seeking a career in a golf-related industry and/or to continue working in a golf- related industry. Strong consideration will be given to nominee's long-term career goals and connection between their educational studies and the golf industry. Nominees will have the opportunity to explain these goals and connections in the application.
  3. Nominee must be registered and/or have been accepted to a higher educational institution.
  4. Nominee must have a Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher in high school or in previous secondary education semesters.
  5. Nominee must be a State of Wisconsin resident.
  6. Nominee must indicate how they are connected to a GCOW-member course.
  7. Strong consideration will be given to individuals that currently are employed at a GCOW course or are employed in some way in a golf-related industry.
